Join The Clean Energy Cluster for it’s latest workshop focusing on major component replacement
Held as part of Floating Offshore Wind 2026‘s conference programme, this workshop will explore what it will take to move major component replacement (MCR) from costly, one-off intervention to a reliable, industrialised capability for the UK’s floating wind sector.
Major component failure remains one of the biggest cost and risk drivers for floating offshore wind projects. As turbines scale past 15MW, much of today’s jack-up fleet is already reaching its limits, and vessels are increasingly pulled toward new-build installation rather than repair campaigns. Emerging in-situ repair and exchange technologies, and new vessel-sharing models, offer a route to faster, cheaper interventions — but only if industry, government and finance can align on design, delivery and investment. With Scotland home to the world’s first floating wind farms and a growing share of the UK’s MCR innovation, the sector is uniquely placed to lead on solving this.
This workshop is designed to:
- Explore the barriers facing major component exchange at scale, from vessel capacity and port infrastructure to design-for-serviceability.
- Bring developers, supply chain, technology innovators and public funders together to identify what’s needed to move MCR from pilot to industry standard.
- Learn how Scotland’s supply chain can capture high-value MCR opportunities as the sector moves from consented projects into delivery.
Who should attend?
This event is open to all Clean Energy Cluster members and Floating Offshore Wind conference delegates with an interest in major component replacement — including developers, OEMs, vessel operators, ports, technology innovators and public sector stakeholders.
